ReplyDeleterhythms is longer than rhythm. idiot.
ReplyDeleteI made it through the first ten items before I stopped reading. This is the kind of list that contributes to widespread misconceptions, and general apathy-based gullibility. You need to cite sources for these claims especially because some of them are quite outlandish. Additionally, some of them are simply wrong. For example, the letter y is a vowel in the word rhythm.

I call bullshit. Worms DON'T taste like bacon. Can't say on some of the others, haven't tested/tasted the other bugs.
ReplyDeleteIf owls are the only birds who can see the colour blue, how does one explain the mating habits of the Bower Bird? They actively seek out one colour to decorate their domain (including blue):

There is no Rome in Australia
ReplyDeleteThere is no Rome in Australia
ReplyDelete#11 is a crock, so's #49. We should all be so lucky to laugh so much every day.

Number 11 is false.

ReplyDeleteSeveral of these statements aren't true.

ReplyDelete??? I'm French and I've never called a "French kiss" an "English kiss". We call those "showels" (pelles).
ReplyDelete??? I'm French and "French kisses " are absolutely not called "English kisses" in French. We call them "pelles" (showels).
ReplyDeleteAbout the myth of the "English kiss", read the following discussion:
ReplyDeletehttp://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=215573
Wrong, we don't say a English Kiss. We say French Kiss or a Smack.
ReplyDeleteMost dust particles in your house are made from dead skin! WRONG!
ReplyDeleteAdolf Hitler was a vegetarian, and had only ONE testicle! WRONG!

Fun info to post anywhere!
ReplyDeleteFun facts to post anywhere!
ReplyDeleteYou should have confirmed these before you put it up. Iceland: It ONCE was illegal to own a pet dog, no longer. and your heart does not beat more than or even close to 100,000 times a day. Lets be logical about this average heartbeat for an adult is around 80 somewhere 80*24 = 1920 where the hell did you get 100,000 from. Don't make people stupid like you, don't post it unless you confirm it.
ReplyDeleteIt's not impossible to sneeze with your eyes open, they did it on MythBusters :D
ReplyDeleteDude, no.11 It's against the law to have a pet dog in Iceland! Where are you getting this nonsense from?!
ReplyDelete#15 is wrong. This book explains why, but there are many other reputable sources that will explain to you why this is a bogus "fact".
ReplyDeletehttp://www.amazon.com/Left-Hand-Turn-Around-World/dp/0306814986/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_2
How many others on this list are erroneous?
Number 41 is false, I have sneezed with my eyes open! It took a few tries, but it wasn't too difficult.
ReplyDeleterhythm has a vowel, vowels aren't necessarily the letters but the sounds they make. the "ih" sound in rhythm makes the y a vowel :)
ReplyDeleteyou CAN Sneeze with open eyes.
ReplyDeleteNo... it is not against the law to have a pet dog in iceland. BULLSHIT
ReplyDeleteNumber 17 on the list isn't true. It's listed as "The elephant is the only mammal that can't jump!"
ReplyDeleteActually, neither can a sloth.
Interesting. I must admit I haven't heard many of them. Thanks...
ReplyDelete#46 is incorrect, birds see all the colors we do and more.
ReplyDeleteDid not know you couldn't kill yourself by holding your breath, but now it kind of makes sense!
ReplyDeleterhythm has a vowel, it is y. vowels : a,e,i,o,u, and sometimes y
ReplyDeleteThe letter y is sometimes a vowel. In this word it is in a closed syllable, /i/ pronounced as a short i.
ReplyDeleteAlso technically qu is what says /cwa/, so you can't remove the q from the u. Most all English words need the qu. Scrabble will allow a few exceptions!
where are your sources?
ReplyDelete"Rhythm" has a vowel. Y is consider a vowel in the English language.
ReplyDeleteHitler was not a vegetarian, he had medical advice to eat less meat, but he did not usually follow them.
ReplyDeleteThis story has been denied through the book of a lady named Dione Lucas, Hitler's cook in the late 30s. She said that Hitler's favorite dish was Squab (Pomp stuffed).

Some of this isnt true.
ReplyDeleteI think there is a rule which explains that in words with y and no other vowel, like in the middle of a word, the y is a vowel, not a consonant. In grade 2, or 3 we learned the vowels are "a,e,i,o,u and sometimes y"

ReplyDeleteThe 3rd one, about the french/english kiss, it isn't true - I asked my friend Vicent (who is 100% French and only in the US for college) and he said they only call it "kissing with tongue" so...yeah, sorry
ReplyDelete#8 is actually two facts, which make this list 51 things (I certainly can't figure out any connection between the two). Though I know for certain that #46 is completely, laughably false, so that actually does make the list back down to 50 things.
ReplyDeleteNot only can birds see blue (why do you think we have so many blue birds? It's certainly not to benefit the predators) but because owls are nocturnal, their vision is worse than other birds.
I can't speak for the accuracy of most of these, but with such blatantly false "facts" like that one in here, I doubt all of them are true.
6. "Rhythm" is the longest English word without a vowel.
ReplyDeleteWomen blink twice as much as men? A pencil can write 50000 words! And a beetle tastes like an apple?
ReplyDeleteI found it all very fascinating. :) In fact I am actually feeling more energetic after reading all those facts!

ReplyDeleteActually, rhythms* is the longest English word without any vowels.

ReplyDeleteBentham is somewhere else, Hitler was, I am told, not a vegetarian, the testicle thing also spurious. lots of these are either mundane or undesirably verifiable...

ReplyDeletenumber 36 is wrong, there are planets outside our solar system which are called by numbers and letters, not after gods
ReplyDeleteWow! Who knew!?
ReplyDeleteI was gonna say that this is 51 things everyone should know because #8 has two facts in it, but then I saw #41 and know it is false so I guess it evens out.
ReplyDeleteyou can sneeze with your eyes open. Mythbusters did it.
ReplyDeleteDear whoever wrote #37,

11. not true.
ReplyDeleteA lot of this is not true.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the point of posting false information like this. Doesn't it make you personally feel like an ass?
Did you learn this information from the bottom of Snapple caps?
Don't believe everything you hear.
# 6, the letter "y" can be used as a vowel, remember: A E I O U and sometimes Y.
ReplyDeleteActually, most of these are pretty suspect.

It only takes these two things for me to question all of them. Before you write something, you should really do better research.
