Life's Instructions

  1. Have a firm handshake.
  2. Look people in the eye.
  3. Sing in the shower.
  4. Own a great stereo system.
  5. If in a fight, hit first and hit hard.
  6. Keep secrets.
  7. Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.
  8. Always accept an outstretched hand.
  9. Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.
  10. Whistle.
  11. Avoid sarcastic remarks.
  12. Choose your life's mate carefully. From this one decision will come 90 per cent of all your happiness or misery.
  13. Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.
  14. Lend only those books you never care to see again.
  15. Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have.
  16. When playing games with ! children, let them win.
  17. Give people a second chance, but not a third.
  18. Be romantic.
  19. Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.
  20. Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems.
  21. Don't allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It's there for our convenience, not the caller's.
  22. Be a good loser.
  23. Be a good winner.
  24. Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.
  25. When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go.
  26. Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born.
  27. Keep it simple.
  28. Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.
  29. Don't burn bridges. You'll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.
  30. Live your life so that your epitaph could read, No Regrets
  31. Be bold and courageous. When you look back on life, you'll regret the
  32. things you didn't do more than the one's you did.
  33. Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.
  34. Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you.
  35. Take charge of your attitude. Don't let someone else choose it for you.
  36. Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need only stay a few minutes.
  37. Begin each day with some of your favorite music.
  38. Once in a while, take the scenic route.
  39. Send a lot of Valentine cards. Sign them, 'Someone who thinks you're terrific.'
  40. Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.
  41. Keep a note pad and pencil on your bed-side table. Million-dollar ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.
  42. Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.
  43. Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a reason later.
  44. Make someone's day by paying the toll for the person in the car behind you.
  45. Become someone's hero.
  46. Marry only for love.
  47. Count your blessings.
  48. Compliment the meal when you're a guest in someone's home.
  49. Wave at the children on a school bus.
  50. Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on your ability to deal with people.
  51. Don't expect life to be fair.

This is all amazing advice. Most of it I try to live by already, but I think that after those past 2 minutes or so that I took to read this, I've gained some great insight. Props to whoever wrote this. You're probably an amazing human being.

This is more like a 'how to be normal' list for sociopaths. Anyone who does all of these things in real life will only be maintaining a facade and hiding his true self.

4. Own a great stereo system

The Second Noble Truth with its three aspects is: ‘There is the origin of suffering, which is attachment to desire. Desire should be let go of.

Anonymous said...

You Are WONDERFUL :) :D

Anonymous said...

First! But seriously great advice.

Anonymous said...

Nicely put I would have one thing to add 52 don't chew bubble gum and take a shit at the same time.
But for real nice job, if the hole whole lived by this list Jesus would come back and give everyone potbelly sandwiches. God that would be fucking awsome..

number 5, while good advice, doesn't belong on this list. number 7 and 17 contradict each other entirely. number 30 is retarded. number 31 and 32 should be combined. it looks like you found a bunch of these posts from other websites and copied them.

Wow, really wonderful advice. Something about that toll booth idea just warms my heart. I'll try that the next chance I get.

25. When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go.

A lot of these numbers are a contradiction of the others.
For example, number 7 and number 17.

I disagree with:

5) never throw the first punch, even in a non physical fight.
7)Giving up on someone can just mean you haven't the resources to keep helping them
33)It can cheapen it if you say it too much
34)Some of the most determined do it alone
39)You may just be getting peoples hopes up, also it will piss off your partner
42)Some jobs aren't worth doing
45)You should never have a hero because everyone has faults. Be your own person!
49)Some children are ass holes and will give you the finger

But what does it matter what I think? I'm just a stumbler...

This is exactly right ; especially number twelve. We often put more thought in the right breeding of a dog than picking a spouse for the right reasons.

52. Treat people like they are going to die tomorrow.
53. Treat yourself like the world is going to end tonight.
54. kiss your girl/boyfriend when they least expect it.
55. always support other people's dreams no matter how ridiculous.
56. try to understand someone before you criticize them.
57. always know what you are about to say and how it will affect the people around you before you say it.
58. however minuscule your accomplishments may be, try your best to change the world for the better. a little effort goes a long way.
59. the life of a single person isn't
worth all the things in the universe.

ok this is starting to just turn into advice rather than instructions but its all good stuff. :D

53. Live every day like it was the last. More or less

If only I could remember to do all of these things my life would be near perfect.

Anonymous said...

This is cute and somewhat wise, however the only hypocrisy is that I don't want to live life by a checklist and the fact that this is a narrow guideline which is unlikely to be followed in many moods, it ought to encourage more freedom of choice and help people develop their own personality rather than giving them this one.

I like this. It's got a lot of things included that you don't really think about often.

My only question is- don't 7 and 17 sort of contradict each other? What was your thinking on that?

I love 49. I remember being on the bus and waving at people. It was so delightful when they'd wave back. :)
